From the moment of our instruction we knew the vision for this site was to provide a high quality scheme that sensitively integrates with, and provides a positive contribution to the village of Brixton where its local identity and respect for the vernacular forms play an important design role. Working closely with the SHDC urban designer we soon reached common ground, promoting an organic road design, good quality boundary treatments and traditional building facades. Natural stone and sympathetic render colours play a dominate role with Georgian style windows and brick dentil detail emphasising the higher order dwellings. To complement the planning design, we also led the community consultation managing the aspirations of the Parish as well as the local residents’ action groups to ensure a smooth run to planning committee. Stakeholder and resident exhibitions proved successful in keep the public fully informed from start to finish.
